Donald Flaherty, Ed.D.

Gold Drum and Bugle Corps was founded in 2005 by Donald Flaherty, Ed.D. The group was formed to expose local students and young adults to a positive youth activity.

Dr. Flaherty has over 20 years’ experience as a music educator and drum corps designer and administrator. Donald is responsible for all aspects of the organization, including planning, operations, marketing and development, as well as serving as a creative design consultant for all Gold Youth Arts’ programs.

Dr. Flaherty holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Fresno State University and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy from Pepperdine University.

Currently, Dr. Flaherty resides in Los Angeles, California.


Jeremy Grasz

Board President & Director of Technology and Live Events

Mr. Grasz has over 15 years of operations experience at Best Buy Co., Inc., as well as more than 10 years of experience managing the operations of Gold Drum & Bugle Corps.

Jeremy is responsible for all technology systems including website design, social media, E-commerce, systems administration, and customer relationship management systems, as well as managing administrative tasks for all drum corps events and tour logistics.

Mr. Grasz currently lives in Oceanside, CA.


Kevin Valentine

Gold Youth Arts Organization is pleased to welcome Kevin Valentine as our new Director of Operations.

Mr. Valentine brings over 25 years of operations management and technology experience to the GYAO Executive Team, having held senior leadership positions with Walt Disney Parks & Resorts and Hilton Hotels & Resorts.

Mr. Valentine will be responsible for strategic planning, financial and operational execution, legal and regulatory compliance, personnel management, and volunteer coordination.

Kevin holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Azusa Pacific University, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He lives in Corona, California, and is supported by his wife Kari, his daughter Rebekah and son Tim, who is an alumnus of Gold Drum & Bugle Corps.


Scott Director

Program Composer & Director of Development

In his role as program composer Scott Director has created original scores for Gold Drum & Bugle Corps. Mr. Director also serves as the organization’s Director of Development.
Mr. Director has over 20 years’ experience as a music educator and composer. He also has extensive experience in the creation and development of fundraising programs for non-profit organizations. He is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of Gold Youth Arts’ fundraising, planned giving initiatives, special events and capital campaigns.

Scott received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Miami where he studied with Clifton Williams, Frederick Fennell and Alfred Reed. Currently, Mr. Director resides in Los Angeles where he maintains an active composing, arranging, and teaching schedule.
