MEET THE PARENTS EVENT – Learn more about Gold
While the student performers are working away, we will be hosting a coffee and donuts gathering Saturday morning from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. We encourage all family members to come to this event. Our Parent/Volunteer Coordinators Darcy Johnson and Nellie Hernandez will be on hand to answer any questions you have about Gold and our summer leadership and performing arts program.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is housing available? Housing is available at Orange Glen High School on Friday night (starting at 8 pm) and Saturday night. Housing is in the gymnasium. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag, air mattress pillow etc. Showers will also be available each evening, so please bring your necessary toiletries.
Do I have to stay overnight at Orange Glen? You do not have to stay overnight at Orange Glen. You are welcome to attend the program during the day time hours and stay at a place of your own choosing at night.
Do I need to bring my own equipment to auditions? Gold does provide instruments for use during auditions. But often we have more students auditioning than available instruments. Thus it is highly recommended that performers try to bring their own equipment – horns, drums, flags etc. Brass players should also bring their own mouthpieces and percussionist should bring their own sticks/mallets. Keyboard instruments for front ensemble performers are provided by Gold.
Do I need to attend all the audition events? While it is highly recommended that performers attend all the audition events (Escondido Jan 7th & 8th and Azusa Jan 15th) it is not mandatory.
Does my audition fee cover all the events? Yes, your fee covers all audition events.
What Should I Wear? All performers should wear comfortable athletic clothing. Also bring a sweat shirt and or a jacket. The weather in Escondido can go from hot in the day to very cold at night. Finally, please don’t wear clothing that features logos from any other drum corps or items that display large corporate logos (Yamaha, Nike, etc). A plain white shirt is always a safe bet to wear.
I have a friend who wants to audition. Can they still sign up? Yes, they can sign up online at: http://www.goldyoutharts.org/drumcorps/2017season/audition/ They can also sign up on the day of the event. We highly encourage all performers to bring any friends that are interested in auditioning.
When will I find out if I made the 2017 Cast? The instructional staff will be in contact with all performers individually at the end of each audition event to let them know their audition status. Contracts will be sent out immediately after a performer is invited to join the 2017 cast by their respective caption head.
NOTE: Percussion section performers – final callbacks to set the line will take place on January 22. (Time & location TBD)
